Video Aya Suzuki - Spill

The Japanese percussionist Aya Suzuki worked during her residency, in the context of OORtreders Festival 2020, on the soundart performance Spill by Erik Griswold. During her performance; she makes a kinesthetic shower of sound with 20 kilograms of rice, working with various objects: temple bells, rice paper, bowls and home-made instruments.

Aya Suzuki started making music at the age of 6. She went to the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo, where she received lessons from the extremely innovative marimba-player Keiko Abe. In 2012 she won first prize in the Marimba Spiritual competition. She is currently studying for a masters at Gent Conservatory under Wim Koninck. She has played solo concerts at the Festival van Vlaanderen, the BEAT IT!-festival in Concertgebouw Brugge, in the Handelsbeurs and in STUK.
