INAUGURATION INSTALLATION: TIME FLIES

05/09/2022

On 14 September we will present a new work for Het Klankenbos to the public. Time Flies is a sound installation, but also a toy, that can be used to experiment with the sound of sand. The work will be located in an ideal spot: the nearby playground of the Scouts Rally.

The Swedish designer-artist Erik Vallbo was commissioned by Musica to develop a participatory work of art with sand as its medium. Based on sand’s association with the passage of time, Erik came up with a construction based on the shape and mechanism of a clock. During a series of workshops with children in collaboration with Akindo, the acoustic aspect of the installation also took shape. They experimented to their heart’s content: the sand was sprinkled, poured, thrown over all kinds of materials.

In the spring of 2022, the manufacturers Spereco and Breetec set to work on Erik’s plans, and a beautiful sculpture for the Scouts rally playground is the result. It will be festively inaugurated on 14 September at 2 p.m. in the presence of the artist, the children of Akindo vzw and invited guests. Everyone is more than welcome to come and raise a glass with us!

Time Flies is a project of Musica Impulscentrum (concept, development and coordination) in co-creation with Studio Vallbo, Scoutsrally and C-TAKT. A series of participatory workshops around the project was organised in cooperation with Akindo vzw.

This project was made possible with the financial support of the Flemish Community, within the framework of Kunst In Opdracht.

The sculpture was constructed by Spereco and Breetec International.

This installation is a concept of Musica Impulse Centre with the support of Gemeente Pelt & Provinciaal Domein Dommelhof.
