Sat 29 May 2021 - 14:00 to Sun 06 Jun 2021 - 20:00
Het Klankenbos, Toekomstlaan 5, 3910 Pelt

A sound art expo in open air with work from Amber Meulenijzer, Nika Schmitt, Elsa M'Bala, Anne van de Star and Mo Laudi

A voice, a car, a bell, silence. At Klankenbos Spring Expo follow a route through the work and creations of five (local/international) sound art artists. They take everyday objects out of their original context and bring them into the forest. The artworks form a resonating reflection of the environment. They resonate, echo, reverberate or remain silent. In their interaction with nature and the 1970s architecture on the site, they create a new soundscape. A landscape that questions the relationship between man and nature and encourages conscious listening to the other.

Amber Meulenijzer (BE) transformed her iconic Saab 900 into a reflective sculpture. Twelve Toa speakers on the roof sculpt sounds that travel to the surfaces of the buildings around it. Experience the kinetic installation Flux by Nika Schmitt (LU) on the bridge over the river Dommel. Different bells help you hear the flow of the river and - who knows - the biting of the fish. Close your eyes in the sound artwork Radio Forest, where you can listen to an intimate radio composition with migration stories by Elsa M'Bala (CM/DE), made during Curating Lab together with residents of Pelt. At the small pond, you walk by Bling rrring by Anne van de Star (BE), a meditative work in which a sound dialogue arises between two rotating steel rings. Sound artist and DJ Mo Laudi (FR/ZA) builds a metre-high fragile construction from everyday wooden objects, between which he plays field recordings and samples, recorded by the participants of Curating Lab.

The opening of Klankenbos Spring Expo takes place on Saturday 29 May at 02:00 pm and is also the closing moment for Curating Lab with performances and listening sessions by Christine Eyene, Elsa M'Bala, Mo Laudi, Megan Leigh Heilig and the participants of the workshops.
