Klankenbos Nocturne for kids 2020 - Cancelled

Sat 25 Apr 2020 - 17:00 to 20:30
Provinciaal Domein Dommelhof, Toekomstlaan 5, 3910 Neerpelt

Children take over the forest during the first edition of Klankenbos Nocturne for kids!

Children from the area are asked to host an evening event in Klankenbos, together with 4 artists.

During the various preliminary processes they will work on guided tours, installations and concerts that will be presented during Klankenbos Nocturne for kids. Expect a night full of young artistic spectacle with drumming performances; animated floating witches and giant wooden drums in the trees.

The evening begins with a real free walking tour by a group of Klankenbos Reporters from the Kunstacademie Noord-Limburg. Together with the Klankenbos guides, children lead with the audience in tow a guided tour which passes by the most important works in the collection. Did you know: this isn’t a classic tour, but more an experience trail where imagination and listening come into their own.

The Brussels based performance artist and installation maker Nazanin Fakoor will work, together with some children, during the Easter holiday around the theme of witches, wizards, pigment and sound. The result is a temporary installation in the forest with mysterious light waves and flying sound objects. The evening ends with three percussive performances, in which children are encouraged to partcipate. The Japanese Taiko drummer Tsubasa Hori hangs giant wooden drums in the trees and takes you on a percussive journey. The young Belgian percussionist Jacob Vanneste presents the piece WEISS by Peter Ablinger and changes the entire sound landscape of the forest with a single cymbal. The Japanese percussionist Aya Suzuki creates a kinesthetic shower of sound with 30 kg of rice, after an installation from Erik Griswold. Those who want to can add to the sound with temple bells, rice paper, bowls and home-made instruments.

Klankenbos Nocturne for Kids is organised in the context of Heritage Day by FARO, Flemish interface centre for cultural heritage, under the theme of 'The Night'.
