Felix Blume - Doors of listening (working title)

Fri 23 Oct 2020 - 09:00 to Sun 25 Oct 2020 - 17:00
Klankenbos, Toekomstlaan 5, 3910 Neerpelt

The residents of the refugee shelter in Pelt take you along in their stories and living environment. Listen in the middle of the forest to their voices and soundscapes through the doors of some villagers. Sound artist and field recordist Felix Blume, invites with this work everyone to listen as a means of mutual understanding and critical thinking. Like a tacit mass, the doors wait for you to come closer with your ears and make time to meet those who may already be in a different place. The sound vibrates inside the doors, deep in the material.

The installation is the result of a collaborative process between the residents of the Red Cross Refugee Centre Overpelt and the artist. In a participatory process with different workshops, they were guided to express themselves through sound. Through the doors, you hear songs, stories, voices and dreams of people on the run, who temporarily make Pelt a home. They literally get a place in the landscape and in this way claim their presence and audibility.

Félix Blume (FR) is a sound artist and sound engineer who works and lives in Mexico and France. His work focuses on listening and uses sound as the basic material for compositions, videos, actions and installations. His process is often collaborative, with different communities, with the public space as context. Blume's sound work is broadcasted and exhibited worldwide such as in Center Pompidou and Musée d´Orsay (FR), Tsonami Arte Sonoro Chile (CHL), CTM Berlin (DE), and Thailand Biennale (TLD). His latest video work "Curupira, creature of the wood" was awarded the soundscape prize. "Los Gritos de México" was honored with the Pierre Schaeffer prize, Phonurgia Nova Awards.
